Putting a wedding together can be a lot of work. There’s so many things to try to consider that it can be overwhelming. It’s not like a wedding is just a big party. For many couples, a wedding is an event.

When big companies need to put on an event, they hire an event planner. The reason is simple; because they have the experience to handle the job. A company representative will meet with an event planner, lay out what the theme of the event is and what they’re hoping to accomplish, then they get out of the way and let the planner do their job. There are periodic checks on things just to make sure everyone’s on the same page, but it’s pretty much the event planner’s job to get things done.

The same thing is in place for a wedding planner. Wedding planners can take care of so many things that most couples really aren’t prepared for, even if at some point they might get it all done. Wedding planners will already have some of the people in place that are needed for the wedding because they will have worked with many people in the past. A wedding planner eliminates the need to figure out who will be the photographer, where to get the flowers, and pricing for the reception. They will know how to decorate and who to call, they will know the caterers, and they will even know the limousine companies to contact.

If couples decide to get a wedding planner, the first thing they need to do is interview at least 2 or 3 of them to get a feeling as to which one they believe they could work best with. Sometimes you can have a wedding planner recommended to you, but they might not work as well with you as they did with whoever recommended them. Don’t bother asking questions like how long they’ve been doing weddings, because you could get any kind of answer with that one. Strike up a general conversation, ask them their process in putting things together, and then ask them for references. That way, you’re not bogging yourself down with a lot of extraneous information. After all, just because someone has done something for a long time doesn’t mean they’ve done it well for that period of time.

One final thing to remember is that, once you’ve selected the wedding planner, there are still some decisions you’ll want to make, such as the first couples song or the type of food you want. But it’s so much easier to tell someone what you want and have them get it for you than having to chase people down and handle it on your own. And even though you’ll have to pay money for it, your peace of mind might be worth it.
