For many couples, selecting gifts for a wedding registry can be exciting or boring, depending on how much they need or the types of gifts a particular store might have available for them to choose from.  Now there’s something else that has been set up as an interesting gift registry idea.

Instead of people paying for gifts that couples might not really need, some couples are finding ways of setting their honeymoons up with travel agents as a gift registry.  It’s an interesting idea that’s actually older than one might think, but is now spreading more as more travel agents and other vendors are learning how well it can work.

Here’s the basic premise.  A couple plans their honeymoon with a travel agent, and figures out how much everything is going to cost.  Then, they pay a portion of the costs, and every aspect of the honeymoon is set up as being separate gift registry items.

People who want to give can see what’s on the registry, and pay whatever portion towards it they wish.  They won’t see the costs, just the item that’s out there.  A couple could end up getting any rental cars totally paid for, as well as days of their hotel stay.  It’s conceivable, if they have friends with money, that they could get their entire honeymoon paid for instead of receiving tangible gifts.  And, since most people who give gifts also give cards, the people participating in this gift registry can include a copy of the receipt in with the card, so the couple knows who paid for what.

Many couples lose a lot of money in paying for their honeymoons.  With a honeymoon gift registry, guests can give as much as they want towards your trip, and every single dollar of it helps.  By allowing people to help you finance your honey moon, you take the pressure off their trying to figure out which gift item they think you need, and instead they absolutely know what you need and, sometimes, are willing to put even more money towards a travel gift.

Of course, as with everything else, there are some restrictions to what you can do.  For instance, you’ll have to pick a vacation destination specifically offered by whichever travel agency you decide to go through.  That’s not such a bad thing, as the trips are to great vacation spots.  However, if you had a trip to the mountains or spelunking on your list of activities you’re probably not going to pick that as an option for most travel agencies.

This is a great option for any couple to decide upon.  And it works great for your guests as well.
